This practical application of humanoid robotics offers a stark contrast to the speculative nature of some industry projections.
The Chinese Advantage
Western coverage often overlooks the significant contributions of Chinese companies in the humanoid robotics market. Unitree Robotics, based in Hangzhou, has quietly shipped approximately 5,500 humanoid units in 2025 alone. Their strategy of focusing on cost and volume has allowed them to outpace Western competitors, with their G1 humanoid starting at a fraction of the price.
Despite this success, Unitree's Q1 2026 net profit took a hit, highlighting the challenges of scaling up production. This raises an interesting question: Can the humanoid robotics industry sustain its current trajectory, or will it face similar profitability issues as it matures?
